I compared two iPhones with the same apps and firmware 3.0 but one is the 3G and the other is the new 3Gs and you'll notice that the speed of the 3Gs is much faster that the 3G even in normal apps.
Check the link for a video and you'll see the iPhone 3Gs smoke the iPhone 3G!
